- The song
One to two weeks
How it works
The song encourages interaction between the children and the adults in the group.
What to do in the class
Explain the purpose of the song is to allow an opportunity for both adults and children to interact. Explain to the group that they are going to move around the room and then in each chorus, you are going to say hello to someone in the group. Adults should come down to the children’s level for this if they are walking. It is important that the children also see the adults greeting each other so that they learn by example.
Adaptations for older/younger children
For babes in arms the children can be carried, and mums should teach waving to each other from a carried position.
What to do in a nursery setting
You need to encourage the children to say hello to each other. With the group seated on the floor tell them that they need to wave hello or shake hands to the children next to them.
